What To Pack

Gear:

  • Your instrument and case, as well any items relevant to your specific instrument. For example: extra strings, guitar picks, guitar stand, guitar strap, extra cables, tuner, D-volts, drumsticks, bow rosin, end pin rest, reeds etc. IMA supplies drums sets and amplifiers. You can bring your own amp if you like, but it’s not necessary. We also have a variety of microphones and PA gear as well as extra guitars (electric, acoustic, electro-acoustic), basses and keyboards as well as ukes, banjos, an electric mandolin–we even have an electric sitar! If you have particular sounds on your keyboard that you like, you can bring it–otherwise we’ve got you covered. Drummers only need to bring their sticks, but if you’d like to bring a favorite pedal or snare you are welcome to. A metronome is recommended to practice in time and achieve better rhythm. PLEASE! GUITAR AND BASS PLAYERS – be sure to bring a stand for your instrument and a tuner.
  • Portable, easy to use, recording device (strongly recommended) that will allow you to record classes as well as your own songwriting ideas, riffs, and lyrics.
  • Music notebook, regular notebook, pens and pencils. You are going to be receiving a great deal of information, it is recommended to take notes and have paper with you for classes. IMA will provide music staff paper.
  • Music listening device
  • Your phone (Teen and Recording Camps only), laptop or iPod, so you can listen to and share music.
  • Camera or camcorder (optional) if you want to document your experience and share with friends and family when you return home.

Clothing:

  • Underwear and socks
  • Sleep wear
  • Sweaters, sweat shirts, warm jacket and t-shirts
  • Pants and shorts
  • Raincoat or umbrella
  • Performance clothes (if different than what you wear everyday)
  • Sandals, canvass or leather shoes that cover your whole foot (for warmth)
  • Because we are up in the hills, it gets cold at night so don’t forget warm clothing and shoes even if you live locally and it seems hot.

There will be one load of laundry done just before the show in case you want to wear something you’ve been wearing all week and it’s gotten a bit too funky. Bring enough clothing to cover the whole session.

Other:

  • Sleeping bag or sheets and pillow case (we have pillows though you can bring your own)
  • Bath towels and washcloth
  • Personal toiletry items: soap, toothbrush and paste, shampoo, conditioner, tampons or pads, etc.
  • Bring your own mug and water bottle (this is a new policy, it helps us cut out an entire load of dishes each day)

We will provide bedding and towels for girls who are flying here.

IMA accepts no responsibility for lost, damaged or stolen items. If you would like us to secure any personal items please bring them to a staff member and we will store it for you.
