The Faculty

Faculty diva: June Millington has been in bands since she was a teenager; her band FANNY was signed to Warner Brothers Records when she was 20 years old. She's a singer, songwriter, electric guitarist (Guitar Player Magazine called her the hottest female guitar player in the industry) . Millington has a long career producing albums as well, with credits including Holly Near, Mary Watkins, Cris Williamson and more recently Bitch and Animal, Joel Zoss, Nancy Vogl and Diane Lincoln. Millington brings an awesome and wide-ranging well of knowledge to each camp. She will be teaching advanced guitar, chart writing and arranging and, in the studio recording camp, CD producing.

Drum/percussion instructor: Janelle Burdell, who is coming to the camps straight from a five year stint as the drummer for the National Tours of Beauty and the Beast and Little Shop of Horrors , has played in just about everything from Rock Bands to Polynesian Revues. Aside from her solid groove and diverse gig resume, Janelle has done a great deal of sound design including work with Micky Hart's Planet Drum projects and with the ground-breaking group D'Cuckoo. Her other love is leading drumming circles which she has done in settings from hospitals, to colleges, to city parks. Janelle will be the drum and percussion instructor for all of the performance based camps. For more info go to www.janelleburdell.com

Bass instructor: Bassist Jean Millington will be joining the staff for the second session of the teen camp, so if you are a bass player sign up for that session. Jean has playing music with her sister June since they were children. Together they formed a succession of all girl bands which led them to Hollywood with a record deal for FANNY the first all-girl band to land a major record label deal (Warner Brothers). Besides holding down the bass groove for FANNY, Jean sang lead and back-up vocals and wrote or co-wrote many of the bands songs. She has continued to perform and release albums with her sister June since their days in FANNY. She has also done studio work for many artists including Carmine Appice, Keith Moon and David Bowie. Millington continues to play bass both in the recording studio and in concert as well as being an Herbalist and Holographic-Repatterning practitioner.

Recording camp instructors: Grammy-award winning engineer Leslie Ann Jones is the Scoring Manager/Mixer at George Lucas' Skywalker Sound. She started out playing in bands in LA when she was a teen, but soon realized she liked doing live sound better than playing the guitar. In 1975 she became the first female recording engineer ever to be hired at ABC Record Studios. From there she worked at the famed Automatt in Northern California and when it closed down she worked for Capitol records until she was hired by Lucas in 1997. She has engineered albums for countless artists including Rosemary Cloony, Michelle Shocked, the Winans, Bobby McFerrin and Angela Bofill. To find out more about Leslie, just google her name.

Roma Baran is another pioneering female studio engineer, best know for her work with Laurie Anderson. Baran, who is also a practicing lawyer, began her career playing guitar with a variety of artists including Rosalie Sorrels and the McGarrigle sisters. She began producing albums in 1977 and later convinced Laurie Anderson that her performance art would translate well in the recording studio. Baran produced Anderson's first release and has continued to co-produce all of her subsequent recordings. Baran continues to play in bands, engineer and produce as well as practicing criminal law.
