"...IMA is a place and a way for the personal to be political. In a time when the gun and sword become the weary tool of the human heart, let it be important that there be a place for singing and togetherness. IMA exists to help us help ourselves."

--Ferron, songwriter, former artist in residence, IMA faculty

IMA is...
a non-profit teaching, performing and recording facility dedicated to supporting women in music
and its related businesses.

What If:

all-female bands were as common as all-male bands? What if we could all name three Native, Latin & Asian American musicians without thinking twice. What if it was ordinary to see a woman running the sound at a concert, or if female producers & engineers weren't anomalies. What if there were more women at the top of record companies?

"The Institute for the Musical Arts is a great idea that is long overdue."

--Bonnie Raitt, recording artist & IMA advisory board member.
